Robin Lewis is a UK-based contemporary artist. His artwork aims to transport the viewer, giving them a feeling of wide open spaces, through the use of spray paint, dripped lines and colour. His creative and energetic style gives a hint of abstract to images of coast and countryside.
Art really came to the fore of Robin's life
when he embarked upon a Fine Art Degree in 2008. This was the first time he had
ever really tapped into the art world and it's rich history. Although Robin
feels the Fine Art degree was (for many reasons) a huge disappointment,
it did allow him time to explore many aspects of art that were to become huge
influences in the future.
Robin didn't immediately begin creating, after passing his Degree, but instead continued on to obtain a PGCE in Primary teaching. The most inspiring aspect of this was a weeks in house training at the Tate St.Ives and Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. For a few years Robin considered and explored the world of art without really creating anything himself, but an idea was forming. Eventually, Robin was introduced to spray paint by Mau-Mau a renowned British urban graffiti artist. It was then that he began to create art using spray-paint himself...
The story continues...
Robin began to develop his own style. Initially selling smaller works at local markets and shopping centres. To help develop a network of likeminded artists, Robin joined the North Devon Arts group where he took on the role of exhibitions organiser. It was then that he started created larger artworks selling through the Broomhill Art Hotel and then holding a solo exhibition at the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe. Local commissions and work in education establishments followed as Robin explored new art possibilities.
The present story...
Robin's style has evolved and no doubt will continue to do so. As well as continuing to develop artwork that brings colour and joy to peoples lives, he wishes to develop his skills and improve his style and personal motifs. Nothing brings Robin greater joy then seeing one of his creations head off into the world with a new family.
